Introduction

North Yorkshire Council commissioned us to create a digital twin of Selby town centre in anticipation of needs for regeneration of the area around the historic Abbey and the station approach. We then used this for VR based engagement events, held at the Abbey.

Challenges

North Yorkshire Council wanted the views of local residents prior to development of this sensitive area. They wanted to engage as many as possible and get the comments and ideas from all age groups prior to detailed planning approvals being sought.

Solutions

Used full Digital Urban 3D modelling and Engagement tools, including DU Explorer, Gamification and Touch Table

Results

Uplift in quality and quantity of feedback at the engagement events, including a wide demographic.

Results were so good that the council have now asked us to model Harrogate and Scarborough.

I’m very excited in the way that you’re able to engage with the project like this. With the VR headset, the ability to look at the plans from up above, and the gamification, it makes it so much more engaging and accessible in a way that I haven’t seen before.
