Introduction

A top UK insurance provider conducted an all-of-market proof of concept (PoC) to find the most accurate, cost-effective property data supplier. Chimnie emerged as the preferred choice, securing a multi-year agreement in 2024. By leveraging Chimnie’s flat file solution, the insurer is embedding high-quality property insights into its underwriting workflows. Although still early in implementation, this selection highlights Chimnie’s ability to compete head-to-head with larger providers and win on both data accuracy and value.

Challenges

The insurer sought a reliable property data partner to enhance its underwriting and pricing strategies. With a vast policyholder base, they required a solution that could scale efficiently while maintaining high data quality. To ensure they selected the best provider, they ran a competitive proof of concept (PoC) against large historical books of insurance policies and claims. The evaluation criteria included data coverage, accuracy, integration ease, and overall cost-effectiveness. While they considered traditional suppliers, these often came with rigid roadmaps, outdated technology, and a premium price tag – creating a need for a more agile, cost-efficient alternative.

Solutions

Chimnie’s flat file property dataset proved to be the strongest fit for the insurer’s needs, balancing depth of coverage, accuracy, and affordability. Unlike competitors with legacy systems, Chimnie offered a modern, flexible solution that could be rapidly integrated into underwriting workflows. The insurer signed a multi-year agreement in 2024, committing to Chimnie as its property data supplier. The dataset is now being embedded into their internal systems to streamline risk assessment and pricing, with an ongoing focus on optimising decision-making efficiency.

Results

Given the recency of this partnership, quantifiable performance metrics are not yet available. However, early signs indicate smoother underwriting processes and improved data utility. While many large insurers demand tangible results upfront, Chimnie’s rapid adoption across multiple PoCs demonstrates strong market confidence. Discussions are ongoing with the insurer about publishing a formal case study, but approvals for performance data remain a slow process. Chimnie is actively working to secure this validation, further reinforcing its reputation as a competitive force in the property data space.
