Building the foundation for a scalable digital planning ecosystem

The Digital Planning Directory has completed its first year as the UK’s authoritative, not-for-profit platform for digital planning collaboration and innovation. Established to address fragmentation across the sector, it brings together digital service providers, planning authorities, policymakers, academia, and training organisations within a single, trusted platform.

Since its launch in January 2025, the Directory has attracted over 45,000 users and engaged more than 2,000 professionals through events and knowledge-sharing activities. It now features a growing range of digital service providers across ten structured categories, supported by real-world case studies that help planning authorities better understand and adopt innovative solutions.

Beyond improving visibility, the Directory has expanded to provide practical support for implementation. The introduction of the Procurement Resource Hub, alongside tools such as the Business Case Template and PropTech Benefits Calculator, has strengthened procurement capability and enabled more informed decision-making.

The launch of the Education & Training Listing further supports the development of a digitally confident workforce, connecting learners and professionals with relevant programmes across disciplines.

Acting as a neutral convening platform, the Directory facilitates dialogue between government and the sector, helping to align policy priorities with market innovation and practical experience. Through this role, it contributes to the acceleration of digital transformation in planning.

Looking ahead, Vision 2030 sets out a clear ambition: to establish the Directory as essential infrastructure for a scalable digital planning ecosystem — embedding innovation into everyday planning practice and delivering measurable public benefit across the UK.
