Introduction

Commonplace is the UK and Ireland’s most impactful community engagement and co-design platform. It was created to foster outreach and collaboration between authorities and local people so that projects benefit from continuous, constructive and collaborative engagement.

Commonplace has guided projects across 60+ themes from active travel, to local plans, to safety initiatives and more. The platform is currently used by:

Developers
Local authorities
Housing providers
Energy companies
Local communities
Charities
Health and social care providers
And more…

They offer a suite of digital tools that are accessible, visual and transparent, to create a diverse and insightful dialogue that informs better decisions about planning, policy-making and places.

These tools include:

- An engagement website: to act as a hub for all questions and information about the project
- Multiple question types: From sentiment questions to voice and visual capture, questions can be tailored to get the most useful information possible.
- Interactive Heatmaps: Simply drop a pin on a map to leave geolocalised feedback
- Emails and News feed: Use both to share project updates
- Respondent dashboard: All responses are kept in one easy-to-use dashboard. Create charts and export data with ease
- AI Analysis: Commonplace’s bespoke AI has been trained to quickly summarise sentiment and key themes from long survey answers.
- In-house support: All projects have an assigned customer success manager to guide you through the launch and patience of your website as well as to answer any queries throughout your project.

Commonplace: an introduction

Testimonials

"During the implementation process, the guidance we received from Commonplace was exceptional. Having a dedicated Account Manager supported us to become knowledgeable product owners and confidently partner with the wider council teams. Central to this was the free, unlimited training for all teams, for the duration of the contract."

Steph Murphy
Senoir Programme Manager, Consultation & Engagement Westminster City Council

Working with Commonplace to adapt the system for use in Wales has been really straightforward and efficient. They have understood the statutory needs for accessibility and language parity and have been flexible and accommodating to ensure our requirements were met.

Jane Lorimer
Project Officer, Welsh Government

The Heatmap was a brilliant way of getting people to tell us what they thought with as broad a brush as possible… I think being able to put a pin in the map and just write what you thought broke down a communication barrier for a lot of people.

Olly Davies
Head of Communications at the Cairngorms National Park Authority
