Introduction

/Our role > BIM managers and Archicad experts.
/Our brief > 3D modelling, coordination and data management of FSDC’s design of the public spaces for the production of a BIM model / digital twin for construction.
/RIBA Stages > 1 to 5.

Challenges

/Challenge 01 > 3D model, federate, coordinate and data manage the entire Phase 1 of Misk City within a single file which includes 20 buildings, the structural canopy, the basement, all public spaces and the vegetation.
/Challenge 02 > Realistic representation of the tree species without increasing the file size of the 3D model.
/Challenge 03 > Report frequently on progress in a visual way for the benefit of the entire project team including the client and officials.

Solutions

/Software > We used Graphisoft’s Archicad to 3D model, data manage and federate FSDC’s design for the public spaces, leveraging Archicad’s capabilities combined to our bespoke internal workflows.
/Design tool > We coded a bespoke design tool – Billboard Tool – in GDL scripting language to create realistic representations of the trees based on light png files.
/BIMx > We used Graphisoft’s BIMx platform to export our digital twin for visualisation by the project team, the client and officials in 2D, 3D and data formats.

Results

/The largest ever digital twin for construction in a single file managed with a single laptop.
/All 2D, 3D and data construction information extracted directly from the digital twin.
/An easy and free to navigate digital twin via the BIMx platform.

/Certificate of good execution.
/Protocols compliance: ISO 19650 BIM protocols.
/BIM Manager modelling and coordinating the design of the landscaping and public spaces with all disciplines, including Architecture, Structure, MEP, Water Features, Structural Canopy and Transport, to produce the required information.
